SPENCER, Frederick, Rev (1893-1974)

The Reverend Frederick Spencer was born in Sunderland, England in 1893. He served with the British Army in World War I and after the war joined the R.A.F. On coming to Victoria in 1924 he commenced the Home Mission Course of training and subsequently
entered the Theological Hall, Ormond College. He served in the Home Mission Stations of Red Cliffs, Woomelang and Healesville and after ordination in 1935 at Dookie, he ministered to the parishes of Ascot Vale West, Flemington, Leongatha and Skipton.
He was a Chaplain in the R.A.A.F, in World War 2, transferred to the A.I.F, and served with the 9th Division in the Middle East.He was Convener of the Assembly’s Architectural Committee.
During his retirement he took an active part in the life of the Ormond congregation.
Throughout his ministry Fred Spencer was a thoughtful and faithful exponent of the Gospel, a diligent and conscientious pastor. A man of Stirling character, he had a great aptitude for friendliness and brotherly helpfulness and through his life the
church has been enriched.
