ATTWOOD, Charles, Rev (1857-1941)
Assembly memorial minute, 1941
The Rev. Charles Attwood was born at Buninyong on July 24th, 1857. For 31 years he was in the service of the Home Mission Committee in such stations as Violet Town, Boort, Walhalla, Boolarra, Berringa.
In 1916, the General Assembly of Australia directed that he be admitted to the ministry and ordained. This was in recognition of his long and faithful service as a Home Missionary. The late Rev. John Barnaby testified to his consistent good service in almost continuous work as a Home Missionary.
He was ordained by the Presbytery of Ballarat at Berringa on March 7th, 1917. He was inducted into the charge of Cavendish on December 12th, 1917, and remained there until August 14th, 1924, when he was translated to Framlingham. On July 26th, 1937 (at the age of 78 years), he demitted the charge of Framlingham, and became a Minister Emeritus, with a seat in the Presbytery of Mortlake. He retired to Ballarat, and died in the Ballarat Hospital on January 8th, 1941.
Mr. Attwood was a quiet man, taking little part in the Assembly, but doing very faithful and unobtrusive work wherever he laboured, and gaining respect and esteem from his people. The Assembly values highly the labours of such servants of Christ, and extends its sympathy to his niece, Miss Emily Attwood, of Buninyong.
