VICKERMAN, Francis Charles, Rev, B.A., Prof (1872-1951)
Assembly memorial minute, 1952
“Frank” Vickerman was born in 1872, near Lancefield, at Rochford. His education began at Monument Creek State School, where his father was master. He graduated Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne, and entered the Theological Hall, Ormond College, 1905, to complete exit in 1907. On the 10th February, 1909, he was ordained and inducted into the pastoral charge of Murchison; translated to Swan Hill in 1915; and to Gisborne in 1920. During this pastorate he was clerk of the Macedon Presbytery, from 1921 to 1926.
He was inducted into Narracoorte on the 18th July, 1927, and again held the office of clerk, within the Presbytery of Penola, from 1928 to 1935. He was translated to Nagambie in 1936, and was clerk of the Presbytery of Seymour from 1937 to 1942. In 194.3 he resigned Nagambie, and was appointed minister emeritus, in 1946, with a seat in the Macedon Presbytery.
Upon retirement he made his home in Lancefield and continued to give valuable service as a supply preacher. Mrs. Vickerman died in 1946. This was a severe blow since Mrs. Vickerman had been a fit helpmate in every respect.
Mr. Vickerman retained vigour of body and mind, keeping abreast of the thought of his day. He exercised sound judgment and great tactfulness, being wise in the Church courts, although he seldom spoke in the Assembly. He sincerely loved the work of the Holy Ministry, and both in the pulpit and as parish minister, he was a proper servant in modesty and Christian courtesy.
He was engaged during the vacancy at Hamilton, and had conducted services on Sunday, and Baptismal Service on the Monday. On Tuesday morning he was suddenly called home, the 10th February, 1951.
To his son and daughter, the Assembly tenders sincere sympathy.
