McCOOK, William Henry, Rev, B.A. B.D., Prof (1878-1952)
Assembly memorial minute, 1953
William Henry McCook was born in 1878 and attended St. Andrew’s College, Sydney, graduating from the Sydney University in Arts and from the College of Divinity. He was ordained in 1904 and succeeded his brother as minister of Warren, New South Wales, in 1908.
He was translated to Batesford, Victoria, in 1910, to Creswick in 1918, to Preston in 1920, which pastorate he resigned in 1927. He undertook temporary ministeries in Hobart and in Perth, at Ross Memorial. At one stage he was for a time in charge of a day school. In 1936 he was inducted into Broadford, and after a pastorate of six years he resigned, in 1942. That same year he was inducted in the charge of Wickliffe, where he laboured until the time of his death.
Throughout his entire ministry, he manifested a deep love in teaching children, in which love he found ample scope for his great natural charm and friendliness. His manner was quiet and unassuming. He was intensely devoted to his high calling. As a preacher he revealed himself as a student of high culture and rich academic qualifications. He gave graciously of his many qualities to the work of the Presbyteries in which he was called. He was a conscientious minister of the Word, a true brother in Christ and a Christian gentleman.
He died suddenly at his Manse in Wickliffe, on Saturday, 28th June, 1952.
To Mrs. McCook, her daughter and sons, the Assembly tenders sincere sympathy.
