 Person

Assembly memorial minute, 1953

K.R. McKenzie was born at Gisborne, Victoria, on 5th December, 1886. He enlisted and served in the first A.I.F., 6th Battalion, being severely wounded in France. He served under the Home Mission Committee for some years, at Landsborough; and at Malden, Tasmania; and entered the Theological Hall, in 1934. During his Hall course he continued to serve in the Collingwood City Mission, to which he had been appointed in 1931. Completing exit in 1936, he accepted the Home Mission appointment ,to Whittlesea for a short period, and later to Framlingham, where he was ordained and inducted on the 12th of April, 1938. On 5th February, 1943, he was translated to Woodford, where he served until the time of his death.

Mr. McKenzie was keenly interested in young people, and was a frequent visitor to their camps and conferences. They gathered round him, convinced that he understood them. His interest encouraged them to co-operate in the work and life of the Church.

He was a faithful and diligent Presbyter, accepting responsibility in discussion and debate in the courts of the Church. For more than 14 years he was a member of the Mortlake Presbytery, and for some years Convener of its Public Questions committee. He was a faithful pastor, mingling with the people in a brotherly and genial manner, his gaiety of spirit bearing witness to a triumphant faith. He was a humble and gracious personality, ever doing good and faithful service for the sake of his Lord. In latter years he showed great courage and fortitude during failing health. A good husband and father, he had the Joy of seeing one of his sons commence studies for the Christian ministry.

Ha died on Thursday, 3rd July, 1952.

To Mrs. McKenzie and their two sons, the Assembly tenders sincere sympathy.
