MITCHELL, Richard George, Rev (1883-1954)
Assembly memorial minute 1954
Richard Mitchell was born at Apollo Bay in September, 1883. He was in business for some years before he commenced studying for the ministry. In 1918 he joined the Home Mission staff and laboured in several stations throughout Victoria. He entered the Theological Hall, Ormond College, in 1921; completed his Exit Year in 1924, and was ordained at Beulah in October of that year. Mr. Mitchell was translated to Swan Hill in March 1930, and to his final charge, Kyabram, in October, 1940.
Mr. Mitchell was a faithful servant of the Lord, and took his call to the ministry as a call to a very sacred trust. To the study of the Holy Word, the preaching of the Gospel, and the administration of the ordinances of the Church, Mr. Mitchell gave himself untiringly, as one zealous to be a sincere ambassador of his Lord.
He seldom spoke in the Assembly, but was a faithful Presbyter, fulfilling, in conscientious service, all presbyterial duties. His unassuming brotherliness commended him to his fellow-ministers. As a pastor, he was earnest to bring comfort, and to guide his flock in the ways of God. It is a tribute to his character and work that the fourteen years he spent in Kyabram, his last charge, marked the high point of his parish ministry.
He died on Monday, 12th April, 1954, at Kyabram.
To Mrs. Mitchell, her son and daughter, the Assembly tenders sincere sympathy.
