Frank Butchers was born on 18th October, 1879, in Hobart, Tasmania, where he received his primary education. Coming to Victoria, he entered the Home Mission Service of the Methodist Church, and was ordained in Wesley Church, Melbourne, on 11th March, 1908.

Three years later, in 1911, he was admitted to the Presbyterian Church, and became minister at Cranbourne.

During the First World War, he was appointed chaplain and served in the Broadmeadows Camp from 1914 to 1918. Thereafter, he was called to Lennox Street Church, Richmond. He was translated to the pastorate of Benalla from which, in 1937, he was translated to Frankston; and in 1941, to Bulla, which he resigned in 1946. For some years he had a seat in the Presbytery of Melbourne North as minister emeritus, and during his retirement was engaged in pulpit supply.

He died suddenly at his home in Hawthorn on Saturday, 8th May, 1954, after 46 years of ordained ministry.

To Mrs. Butchers and her daughter, the Assembly tenders sincere sympathy.
