HUME, Frank Lyall, Rev (1868-1954)
Assembly memorial minute 1954
Mr. Home was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on 7th January, 1868. At the age of 28, he was sent, in 1896, to the New Hebrides as assistant to the late Rev. F.H.L. Paton, of Tanna, to whom he was a first cousin. In 1900, for health reasons he returned to Australia.
From 1904 to 1918 he did Home Mission work in Victoria, but because of ill health had to relinquish the work in the latter year. He resumed Home Mission work in 1927 at Lake Rowan and in 1928 was granted special ordination by the General Assembly of Australia. He was ordained at Euroa in February, 1929.
Euroa was the only full charge Mr. Hume held. This he resigned in 1938, and thereafter had a seat as minister emeritus within the Presbytery of Seymour. Until the death of his wife in 1949 Mr. Hume lived most of his time in retirement at Lome and did supply preaching during the war years. For a time he acted as assistant minister in the North Essendon Charge.
He died on Friday, 4th June, 1954.
To his two sons, the Assembly tenders sincere sympathy.
