Assembly memorial minute 1955

Born at Christchurch, New Zealand, on 15th December, 1881. Ordained and inducted at Tallangatta, Victoria, on 6th January, 1914. Charges: Smith of Dunesk Mission, South Australia; Murray Bridge, South Australia; Willaura, Victoria; North Essendon; Queenscliff; Penola, South Australia; Inglewood, Victoria: resigned on 30th June, 1945. Died on Saturday, 13th August, 1955.

Mr. Carey came, as a young man, from New Zealand and entered the Home Mission Service of our Church, commencing his studies at the Theological Hall, Ormond College, in 1911. He was sent to Tallangatta as an Exit Student.

Believing intensely in the high calling of the Christian ministry, Mr. Carey was a devoted minister of the Gospel. All else was subjected that his Lord and Master might be magnified. He was a zealous Bible student and spent much time in faithful research and preparation of the message of salvation. He was a faithful presbyter, though not desiring to participate in debates of the Church’s courts. In the teaching of the young he was most interested and, for some years, he conducted part of the children’s page in "The Messenger”.

After his retirement in 1945, he was engaged in supply work over a period of ten years. Throughout several States, many congregations remember this thoughtful preacher and his arresting manner of presenting the gospel. Ch the Sunday before his death, he supplied a vacant pulpit.

He was minister emeritus within the presbytery of Melbourne West.

To his daughter, Mrs. Ward, the Assembly tender sincere sympathy
