At the age of 24, Mr. Shields came to Australia thirty years ago. He was accepted as a candidate for the ministry, and served as a home mission agent in several parts of Western Australia during his four years of study, in preparation for the Theological Hall in Perth.
Mr. Shields pursued an effective ministry in all his pastorates, and also gave of his time and services to the affairs of the community.
He was conscientious in his attendance at the Courts of the Church and was, on two occasions, entrusted with the responsibility of Presbytery Clerkship - the Presbytery of Penola in 1944, and the Presbytery of Western Plains in 1949.
He was a fine leader, and had a way of inspiring youth to worthwhile interests.
While still in his prime, he passed away suddenly in his study while preparing for his Sunday’s work.
To Mrs. Shields, her three sons and daughter the Assembly tender sincere sympathy.
