For health reasons, Mr. Bett was compelled to retire early from the full parish ministry. However, during eighteen years of retirement he was most active in canvassing the developing suburbs of Melbourne with a view to the establishing of new charges. He conducted extensive visitations of both East Kew and North Balwyn, producing a complete list of Presbyterians. He, himself, became a member of the growing congregation at East Kew and was keenly interested in its life and work.

”His quiet, kindly nature, his sincere proclamation of the eternal truth, his love and understanding of men and women in their deepest needs, made his ministry a very gracious one, and through his preaching and pastoral care he continually commended the Master Whom he served so devotedly and faithfully.”

To his daughter, Mrs. Harding of Meredith, and his son, Mr. W. R. Bett of B alwyn, the Assembly tender sincere sympathy.
