FORBES, Ernest Albert, Rev (1873-1959)
Assembly memorial minute, 1959
The Rev. Ernest Albert Forbes, who died at Corowa on July 18th, 1959, was one of the oldest ministers of our Church, having been born at Bowenvale on April 3rd, 1873.
As a youth he became a Sunday school teacher at Terang, and the Session there recommended him to the Presbytery of Mortlake as a candidate for the ministry. After some years of Home Mission work he studied at Scotch College and thereafter completed his theological training at Ormond College. In 1903 he was ordained and inducted at Allansford.
Called to Yarrawonga in 1906, he transferred to Lismore in 1912, where his main life work was done. He was a faithful pastor, an earnest preacher, and a very conscientious Clerk of the Presbytery of Western Plains. After his resignation in 1947, he went to live at Corowa and resided there until his death on July 18th, 1959.
In addition to Mrs. Forbes he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. J. Izon, of Corowa, and a son, Dr. John Forbes, of Fairfield Hospital.
To his widow and family the Assembly tenders sincere sympathy.
