McDONALD, Norman Thomas, Rev (1890-1960)

 Person

Assembly memorial minute, 1960

The Rev. Norman Thomas McDonald passed away at Bendigo on 8th January, 1960, after a long illness.

Born at Cope Cope on 27th September, 1890, and educated at Scotch College and Melbourne University, he entered the Baptist ministry and was ordained at Canterbury in 1920. Determining to transfer to the Presbyterian Church, he went through a theological course at Ormond College.

He served all his ministry in country parishes, being inducted at Quambatook in 1932, Casterton in 1935, Learmonth in 1942, and Allansford in 1950. Resigning from Allansford in May, 1956, he took up his residence in Bendigo where he remained until his death.

He was a thoughtful preacher, a good pastor, and was greatly beloved by the people of his various congregations.

His wife, who survives him, was a daughter of the late Dr. F.W. Boreham. The Assembly expresses its deep sympathy with her and her three daughters, Miss Gwen McDonald (Bendigo), Mrs. Norman Sellwood (Learmonth), and Mrs. Peter Warren (Melbourne).
