WILLIAMS, Robert John, Rev (1865-1961)

 Person

Assembly memorial minute 1961

At his home in Coleraine in the Western district, a minister in the person of the Rev. Robert John Williams who was born in Wales, but spent most of his life in Victorian country parishes, passed to his reward on the 4th July, 1961.

His ordination and induction took place at Darlington, then in the Presbytery of Mortlake, in November 1921. Thereafter he fulfilled his sacred office in Wickliffe, Sea Lake, Leongatha, Bendigo (St. John’s), Coleraine, Mia Mia and Streatham from which he resigned in 1954.

He combined the fervour of the Welsh preacher with great diligence in his duties as a pastor and he served the people of his various charges with earnestness and zeal. He leaves a widow, one daughter (Mrs. J. McLean) and one son, the Rev. Kenneth Williams now of Alexandra.

The Assembly thanks God for his life and work and commends the widow and family to our loving Heavenly Father.
