SANDERSON, Arthur Clark, Rev, M.A. (1875-1962)
Assembly memorial minute 1962
One of the most senior members of the Assembly passed away suddenly on February 26th, 1962, in the person of the Rev. Arthur Clark Sanderson in his 87th year.
Born at Carlton on February 20th, 1875, he spent his early years in that district, his family having been long connected with the St. Andrew’s Church in Rathdown Street. At the University of Melbourne he gained his M.A. degree with honours in Logic and Philosophy. He then proceeded to the Ormond College Theological Hall, and was ordained and inducted into the pastoral charge of Talbot on June 13th, 1909. Resigning from that parish, he was next inducted at West Tamar, in Tasmania, on August 19th, 1914, and ministered there until August 31st, 1920. His other parishes were Drouin where he served from May 29th, 1923 until December 31st, 1925, and at Rosedale from February 23rd, 1926 until May 31st, 1929.
After retiring from active parish work Mr. Sanderson continued an active ministry as a supply preacher, and although he had been declared a minister emeritus in 1940, he continued until quite recently to lead an active and busy life. As a preacher he evinced sound scholarship and a great love of poetry and good literature. He was a man of a most kindly and friendly nature.
The Assembly thanks God for the life and long ministry of Art
