PATTON, George Adam , Rev (1908-1962)

 Person

Assembly memorial minute 1962

The Rev. George Adam Patton came to Victoria as a Scottish migrant in 1926, and after spending some years on the land in several States, he entered the service of the Home Mission Committee, and thereafter entered the Theological Hall at Ormond College in 1937.

He was inducted to the charge of Inglewood in 1940, and was appointed a military chaplain in 1941. He served with the Third Division Signals and later with the 2/11 Field Regiment, and was in Darwin during the Japanese attacks.

On his discharge in 1945 he resumed his ministerial work at Yallourn for a short time, and was later inducted to the charge of Warburton on June 20th, 1947.

Being interested in the Scout movement, he resigned his charge to become a Scout Commissioner in 1950. Finally he accepted a call to Auburn and was inducted to that charge on July 29th, 1958, where his ministry was terminated by his sudden death after the morning service on Sunday, March 25th, 1962.

The Assembly expresses their deep sense of the loss sustained by the Church through the death at the early age of 54 of a minister with high Christian standards who was unafraid of the need of patient toil in the Master’s cause.

He is survived by his widow and three daughters to whom the Assembly extends their sympathy and continuing concern.
