HOLT, John Cyril, Rev (1904-1963)

 Person

Assembly memorial minute 1963

The Rev. John Cyril Holt was born at Clapham, England, on December 23rd, 1904, and came to Australia at the age of 18. For some years he was engaged in farming pursuits in Queensland, but eventually came to Victoria, where the call to work more actively in Christian service led him to train for the ministry of the Congregational Church.

After his ordination on April 12, 1949, he held several charges in the Congregational Church, and was serving at East Geelong when, after much searching of heart, he applied to be received into the Presbyterian Church. The Home Mission Committee appointed him to Cororooke while he attended lectures at Ormond College as prescribed by the General Assembly of Australia. These requirements were satisfactorily completed, and without hesitation the Cororooke congregation called him to be their minister. He was inducted on April 27th, 1960.

His brief ministry there was a very happy one, and radiated something of the joy which came from his knowledge of the salvation of his Lord, Jesus Christ. After a short illness he died on May 4th, 1963.

The Assembly joins in deep sympathy with his wife and family of four children, remembering the promise of our Lord ”I am the Resurrection and the Life; He that believeth in Me, though he were dead yet shall he live.”
