HOOD, Samuel Dunlop, Rev (1869-1963)
Assembly memorial minute 1963
With the death of the Rev. Samuel Dunlop Hood on May 20th, 1963, at the age of 94 a life dedicated to the service of our Lord came to a close.
Samuel Hood was born in Northern Ireland, and came to Australia as a young man. After working for some years in the country, he turned his thoughts to the ministry, and, after some time spent in the service of the Home Mission Committee, he entered the Theological Hall in 1904.
His sheer persistence in study earned for him the respect of his fellows.
On the completion of his course he was ordained and inducted at Balmoral, where he is still remembered with affection. His other charges were Warragul, Myrtleford, Nathalia and Willaura. Because of illhealth he resigned from Willaura in 1933, and lived in retirement at Sandringham.
For many years he was active as a supply minister, and also took a share, as far as those duties would permit him, in the life of the Sandringham parish.
Samuel Hood will be remembered as a kindly, upright servant of God whose outgoing concern for others arose from his own devotion to his Lord and Master.
He is survived by Mrs. Hood and one daughter, to whom the Assembly express their sincere sympathy.
