PYE, Andrew, Rev (1870-1963)
Assembly memorial minute 1963
A minister who had attained the great age of 93 years departed this life on June 15th, 1963, in the person of the Rev. Andrew Pye. Born at Glasgow on December 19th, 1869, he migrated from Scotland in 1910, and began his work for the Victorian Church as a Home Missionary at Loch in 1915. Combining this work with his studies for the ministry, he was ordained and inducted into this charge on February 18th, 1924.
The Rev. Andrew Pye also served in the charges of Nathalia, where he was inducted on October 29th, 1926; Penshurst, where he was inducted on November 3rd, 1937; and Ballan, where he was inducted on February 10th, 1942.
On his resignation from the charge of Ballan, he did Home Mission work at Chelsea and Black Rock as an appointee of the Home Mission Committee.
Despite his great age, Mr. Pye remained active in the Church almost to the last, being a faithful member of the Session at Black Rock until only a few months before his death. His ministry was quiet and dedicated, and his unpretentious labour won many victories for the Kingdom of God.
He is survived by Mrs. Pye and two sons, to whom the Assembly express their sincere sympathy.
