GEORGE, James, Rev (1905-1963)

 Person

Assembly memorial minute 1963

Born at Ayr, Scotland, on April 12th, 1905, the Rev. James George passed away on August 8th, 1963, on his return journey from Melbourne, where he had been attending the Standing Committees as a representative from the Presbytery of Wimmera.

In response to a call to service for Christ, he completed the Home Mission course in Victoria, and volunteered for service in Western Australia, where in the thirties the need of men for the ministry was very acute. He was ordained in St. Andrew’s Church in Perth on May 9th, 1939, and was stationed at Manjimup. When the Second World War broke out, he enlisted for service in the Second A.I.F. and spent five years as a chaplain in the Middle East.

After the war, he returned to Victoria, and was called to Streatham, where he was inducted in 1946. His next parish was Cressy, where he was inducted in 1950, and was exercising an able ministry when, to the regret of his people, he resigned in April, 1952 to take up an appointment as manager of ’’Kildonan”.

He served the Church in that important capacity until October, 1956, when he accepted a call to Ararat, and was inducted in July, 1957. His wide experience of life made him a very faithful pastor, and his early death is a serious loss to our Church.

To his wife and daughter, the Assembly conveys their sympathy and prays that our Heavenly Father will grant to them the healing balm of His consolation.
