John Priestley was a man of many abilities, who dedicated them all to the service of Christ and His Church. He was an able expositor of the Word, and his words had breadth and depth. He was a brotherly man who was concerned for his people and for all men. He had special gifts of administration and served the Church in its Courts and on its committees with great devotion and rare effectiveness. The whole ministry of the Church has been placed in his debt through his convenership of the committees of the Beneficiary Fund and the Maintenance of the Ministry.
He made a significant contribution to the development of Stewardship in Victoria, South Australia and as far away as the Presbyterian Church in Ireland which Church has recognised in tangible form his service.
He was a man of tremendous energy who spent himself in the service of others.
The Assembly thank God for his life and ministry, and commend his wife and family to the continuing grace of God.
