LLOYD, John Edward, Rev (1902-1965)
Assembly memorial minute 1965
Born 15th March, 1902, at Liverpool, England. Died 14th September, 1965. Completed his course at the Ormond College Theological Hall in 1935.
He was appointed to the Exit Station of Mount Pleasant, South Australia, and was Ordained and inducted on 19th August, 1936.
He resigned his parish for Chaplaincy service and served as A.I.F. Chaplain in Palestine and Syria during 1941-42.
Upon his return to Australia he served as minister to the Seymour Charge for a short term and Belmont from 2.10.42 to 31.3.44, when he resigned his parish to undertake further Chaplaincy work with the R.A.A.F., serving for two years in Australia and overseas.
Upon the cessation of the war he was inducted to Cororooke on 17th September, 1946; Ararat 10th May, 1950, and Berwick/Pakenham 10th July, 1956, resigning this charge because of ill health on 31st July, 1962.
Thereafter, in spite of persistent physical handicap, he gave his services to many parishes as a supply minister, and these services were most acceptable and greatly appreciated by all.
John Lloyd was a gracious personality, one with a deep discernment of Christian truth, and a most able and acceptable preacher. He was a man with deep sympathies that made his pastoral concern for his people an essential part of his ministry.
He made many friends and held their friendship; his humour and his laugh were contageous : he had a way of blending the serious and the gay that endeared him to all who knew him.
The Assembly give thanks to God for his life and ministry and convey their sympathy to Mrs. Lloyd and his two daughters.
