JONES, William, Rev (1860-1910)

 Person

Assembly memorial minute, 1910

The Assembly records with regret its loss, in the death of Rev. Wm. Jones, on 11th April. Born in England in i860, he came to Victoria in 1888. Later on he entered the Theological Hall, passed through its classes with distinction, and was ordained in 1896.

When a student he served the Church faithfully as Assistant at Colac, and as Missionary at Burnley. For nearly three years he was Minister at Suva, Fiji; and from 1899 Minister at Tatyoon and Ross Bridge.

Mr. Jones was quiet and gentle in manner, kindly in disposition, and presented the peaceful side of the Christian life. He was a good student, and in his fresh and bright discourses set forth the Gospel message from a well stored mind. In life and work he was earnest and consistent, and at the end bore his suffering with serenity, courage and Christian patience.

To his bereaved widow and family the Assembly offers its sincere sympathy, and commends them to the God of all comfort.
