After serving in the Civil Defence Force during the second World war he returned to Canada and from Canada he and his family migrated to Victoria Australia.

While still actively engaged in the printing industry he worked in an honarary capacity for the Home Mission Department until he responded to the call to take up studies for the ministry. He was ordained at Cranbourne in 1958 and served also at Cairns Memorial and South Hawthorn.

Failing health forced him to retire from parish work and as a Chaplain in the Defence Forces, Southern Command. He then served for five years as the Chaplain of St.Andrew's Hospital.

The Assembly gives thanks to God for the life, witness and ministry of the Rev. Robert Boyd particularly for his devotion as a pastor, his preaching gifts, his evangelical zeal, and his concern at all times for people. He will be especially remembered as the gracious Chaplain to both patients and staff of St.Andrew's Hospital.
