Mr. Matear trained for the ministry in a hard school. By his own choice he went into lumber camps. He brought the benefits of that ministry, together with his New Zealand experience, to the Tasmanian and Victorian Churches. These experiences, no doubt, contributed to the quality of his preaching which was exceptionaly good and effective.
The Assembly thanks God for the life and ministry of Charles Matear. In particular, the Assembly would thank God for his courage the thoroughness of his training for the work of the ministry, the quality and effectiveness of his preaching, the esteem in which he was held and his faithfulness in ministry.
The Assembly extends sympathy to his relations in their bereavement.
