FRASER, Rev (1824-1912)
Assembly memorial minute 1912
The late Rev. Duncan Fraser, of Heidelberg, was born near Inverness, Scotland, in 1824, and, after due course of training, he was ordained to the Holy Ministry by the Presbytery of London. After a brief pastorate at Maidstone, Kent, in 1862, he reached Victoria, and was inducted as first Minister of St. John’s, Ballarat.
In 1869, he was inducted into the pastoral charge of Heidelberg and Janefield, including the townships of Heidelberg, Preston, and Northcote, out of which five flourishing Congregations have been formed.
In 1898, he demitted the charge of the Heidelberg Congregation, and became a Minister emeritus. In the ripeness of honoured old age, in his 87th year, he passed peacefully away at the call of the Master, in whom he trusted and whom he had served.
His memory remains of a man of forceful personality, of enthusiastic temperament, and of unwearying energy. He was a man of keen intellectual powers, a brilliant lecturer, and above all, an eloquent preacher of the Gospel of Christ.
The Assembly offers its sympathy to his widow and to the other members of his sorrowing family, and places on record its thankfulness to Almighty God for the strong and brave men who have laboured so long and so successfully in extending the Kingdom of God in this new land.
