HENRY, James, Rev. (1825-1914)
Assembly memorial minute 1914
“That the Assembly resolve to place on record their appreciation of the character and work of the late Rev. Jas. Henry. Mr. Henry’s long life was marked by singular diligence and earnestness. Having devoted himself to the service of Christ in the ministry of the Gospel, he had to contend against very great difficulties. To secure the equipment of a minister cost him severe toil and much patience.
He maintained the habit of faithful labour throughout two long pastorates, one at Scotland and one in Albury; and after he had retired he eagerly undertook any Christ work he was able to do. For several years he carried on the work of the Church at Burwood, and he was most assiduous and faithful in discharging the duties of an Elder and in many other services to the Camberwell congregation.
He won the high esteem of all the Christian people there and the warm affection of those who were intimately associated with him. His life was a long record of strenuous and faithful service and he was never afraid to suffer hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”
