McBRIDE, William, Rev. (1929)
Assembly memorial minute 1929
The Rev. William McBride. Mr. McBride was born in Ulster, but came to Melbourne and was enrolled a student of Ormond College in 1884. His first ministry was in Dromana, where he spent eight years. His second parish was Mortlake. Here he remained for 38 years, resigning in 1927.
As a preacher he exhibited gifts of no mean order. His message was truly evangelical, forceful and effective. As a pastor he won and retained the esteem and affection of his people. The young were a special care to him, and all in need, whether spiritual or material, found in him a friend indeed.
On his retiral he returned to visit the scenes of his early days in Ireland. There he died. By the death of Mr. McBride our Church has lost a loyal and faithful minister of Jesus Christ. Our sympathy goes out to his relations in Ireland.
