COX, William, Rev. (1860-1932)

 Person

Assembly memorial minute 1932

Mr. Cox was born at Creswick on November 22, 1860. He was educated at Clunes State School, and received his theological training at Ormond College.

He began his work as Home Missionary assistant to the Rev. W. Gray, of Avoca, in 1889, continuing for 12 months. He was Home Missionary at Barnedown for four and a half years during his theological course.

He was appointed to Wedderburn as an exit student, where he was ordained in 1895. He remained in Wedderburn for seven and a half years. His subsequent spheres of labour were Avoca, Kyabram, Nagambie, and East Brunswick. He came to East Brunswick in 1919. He died on 3rd March, 1932.

Mr. Cox won the respect and esteem of all in the many places that he served. He was known to the Church as a man of unbending principles, jealous for the honour of his Master and the extension of His Kingdom. He was ever ready to take his stand against such social evils as intemperance and the dishonouring of Sunday. The Church is the poorer to-day for the loss of one so faithful to his heavenly calling.

Our sympathy is given to his widow and family.
