MacLELLAN, James Andrew, Rev. (1851-1932)

 Person

Assembly memorial minute 1932

Mr. MacLellan was born at Leeds, England, in 1851. Coining to Australia in pursuit of health, he became a missionary in the service of a sister Church, and afterwards of our Church at Tarnagulla. While there he completed his studies at Ormond College. Ordination at Tarnagulla followed.

Later he accepted a call to Jamestown, South Australia. He also became minister at Wallaroo and Hawthorn, Adelaide. For the last five and a half years he lived in retirement. Twice he was called to the Moderator’s chair in South Australia. He died on 1st April last, in his eighty-first year.

Mr. MacLellan was a devoted pastor, an earnest and faithful preacher, an unwearied student, and a beloved friend. He had an honoured place in the hearts of his brethren. We sympathise with his sons and daughters in their great loss.
