NAISMITH, William, Rev., B.A. (1864-1933)
Assembly memorial minute 1933
Mr. Naismith was born at Hamilton, Scotland, in 1864. He came to Australia in 1882. Two years of his Arts course were taken while teaching in Brunswick College. His training for the ministry was completed at Ormond. As a student, he served in various Home Mission stations.
As a licentiate, he spent a year at Mount Gambier, going from there to Birregurra, becoming first minister of that parish in 1902. St. Andrew’s, Warracknabeal, was his second and last Charge. He remained there for eighteen years.
In 1927 he was appointed chaplain to Austin Hospital and other institutions in the district. An illness extending over nineteen months brought to a close his earthly ministry. He died on April 3, aged sixty-eight.
Mr. Naismith wherever he went exercised a gracious influence, which deepened with the passing of the years. He was, above all, a good man, genial and brotherly. Especially did he approve himself in his ministrations to the sick, to whom his sympathy and Christian devotion brought peace and comfort. Our sympathy is extended to his widow and children.
