MACKENZIE, Donald Alexander, Rev. (1876-1935)

 Person

Assembly memorial minute 1935

Mr. Mackenzie’s birthplace was Leith, Scotland. He had three years’ training at Edinburgh University. He completed his course at Ormond. He did Home Mission work at Neerim South, Healesville and Glencoe, South Australia.

Bulla was his first charge, where he remained seven years. He was minister of St. John’s, Bendigo, for nine years.

It was Mr. Mackenzie’s intention, in coming to Australia, to devote himself to a secular calling, but he was persuaded to give his life to the Holy Ministry. His subsequent career showed the wisdom of his choice. In every charge in which he laboured he did fine service for the Master— alike among old and young, and in all sections of the community.

The unusually large crowd which gathered to his funeral showed the high esteem in which he was held by all, a company which embraced representatives of all the Churches, and of the many institutions for which he had done conspicuous and ungrudging service.

Mr. Mackenzie was born in 1876, came to Australia in 1913, and died March 1, 1935.

Mrs. Mackenzie has the sympathy of all of us in her bereavement.
