LEE, George Duke, Rev. (1830-1915)

 Person

Assembly memorial minute 1916

The Rev. G.D. Lee first settled at Glenelg, but his ministerial work was done chiefly at Cavendish, where he laboured for over thirty years as a true minister of Christ.

One of the pioneer ministers of the Western District, he had many long journeys over bad roads, in all weathers, seeking to bring the blessings of the Gospel to his people. Many were greatly comforted in their sorrow by his loving words and tender sympathy. His great joy was in preaching the Gospel, yet he took a great interest in educational matters.

On his retirement to Hamilton he became an honoured elder of St. Andrew’s Church, and did very useful work in that capacity till called to his reward.

The Assembly offers its sorrowing sympathy to his bereaved family.
