ROBERTS, John, Rev. (1829-1915)

 Person

Assembly memorial minute 1916

The Rev. John Roberts was born in 1829, and came to South Australia in 1849, his first charge being at Goolwa.

He was called to the united charge of Stratford and Maffra in 1867, and when a division came he held the pastorate at Stratford. He ministered in this district for 30 years, and even after his retirement took services continuously till near the end of his life, his total period of preaching activity being almost 65 years.

His life was characterised by deep piety, constant prayer, careful study of God’s word, and untiring industry. His end was sudden, as he died in a suburban train, while returning to Maffra from a visit to Adelaide. The Assembly places on record its high estimation of the value of his work.
