MOORE, Alexander Henderson, Rev., B.A. (1865-1919)
Assembly memorial minute 1919
The Rev. Alexander Henderson Moore, B.A., was born at Geelong in 1865. His early education was supervised by his father, the Rev. A.M. Moore, M.A., minister of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, Geelong. He afterwards attended the Geelong College and the University of Melbourne, where he graduated as Bachelor of Arts. He gained experience as a teacher in the Geelong College and the Caulfield Grammar School. In the year 1893 he entered the Theological Hall at Ormond College, where he completed his training for the ministry.
After acting some time as assistant to the late Rev. J.D. Dickie, of Colac, Mr. Moore was called in 1898 to the newly-formed charge of West Perth, Western Australia. Here he took part, with characteristic zeal, in all the activities, not only of his own congregation, but also of the young and growing Presbyterian Church of Western Australia.
In 1902, wearied with four years of strenuous work, Mr. Moore returned to Victoria For a year he acted as locum tenens for the late Dr. Cairns in St. Andrew’s Church, Ballarat. Early in 1904 he entered on the faithful ministry in Scots’ Church, Ballarat, which was terminated only by his death on the 12th March, 1919. From 1914 until his death he held the responsible position of Clerk of the Presbytery of Ballarat.
The Assembly mourns the loss of a cultured scholar, a forceful preacher, an able teacher and trainer of teachers', a careful and conscientious Clerk of Presbytery, a fearless champion of right, and a warm-hearted man of God. It tenders its sincere sympathy to Mrs. Moore and her two daughters, and prays that the Father of mercies and God of all comfort may comfort them in their affliction.
