McCREA, David Graham, Rev. (1853-1923)
Assembly memorial minute 1923
The Rev. David Graham McCrea was born in County Derry, Ireland, his father being the Rev. William McCrea. He was a graduate of Magee College, Londonderry, where he took a high place in the classes. After being licensed as a preacher of the Gospel he was called to Moy, County Armagh, as successor to the late Dr. Cairns, of Ballarat.
About thirty years ago he came to Victoria, and soon after, in 1893, was called to be minister of the Caulfield Church, now known as St. John’s, Elsternwick. After a successful pastorate of about eight years he resigned.
His next settlement was at Mildura, where he was minister from 1907 to 1909. Since that time he lived in partial retirement, acting as locum tenens for various ministers for brief periods, and serving on the supply list.
He was a man of cultured mind and wide reading, and was an earnest and able preacher. For the service he rendered the Church the Assembly records its gratitude, and tenders its deep sympathy to his widow and son.
