WILSON, Leonard Charles Keith, Rev. (1906-1988)
Memorial minute Presbytery of Gippsland 1988
The Reverend Leonard Charles Keith Wilson died at Sale on 19 July 1983. He had exercised a quiet, humble ministry in two States both as a Home Missionary and as an ordained Minister of the Church.
He first entered full-time work in his early 20s, but after only a brief period set this aside for a time due to family commitments. On hearing the call to re-enter full-time work he commenced service with the NSW Home Mission Department in 1947.
Over the next 18 years he served faithfully as a Home Missionary in ten different Stations throughout that State. He presented as a mature aged Student, and on completing the required course of study was appointed as an Exit Student to Lockhart where he was Ordained and Inducted in 1965.
Four years later he accepted a Call to Rosedale, and later moved to his final Charge of Toorah-Foster. From there he retired through ill health, which plagued him throughout his retirement, moving to Sale. Though retired and unwell, he undertook the responsibility of re-establishing Presbyterian witness in Sale in the late 1970s.
In his ministry Keith Wilson went about his pastoral work with a deep love for souls. His preaching was keenly evangelical, being aided by his deep love for the Greek New Testament - a love kindled in him in his school days. His preaching always held up the hope which the Gospel offers.
Those who knew him appreciated his pastoral concern for people. He was a humble man who eschewed ostentation or self glorification. He was a perfectionist in all that he set himself to do, and while he set high standards in his expectations of the church and his fellow Ministers, he set even higher ones for himself. His whole aim in life was to point men to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.
After a long, but humbly lived life, and a brief final illness, Keith Wilson was in his 83rd year at the time of his death.
The Church upholds his widow and six children in its prayers and love.
